Meet our staff: Your Sexual Health Education Coordinator, Mallory Stasko
Meet Mallory Stasko, MPH, CHES, UHS’s new Health Education Coordinator specializing in Sexual Health.
What do you do with UHS? I am one of three health educators for student health at University Health Service and I lead the sexual health programming. In this role I help educate students on making healthy decisions regarding their sexual health and I advise a group of peer educators called the Sexperts who raise awareness about sexual health through presentations and fun demonstrations at campus events. In addition, I work closely with our two other health educators to bring programs on nutrition, stress, tobacco cessation, flu, etc. to campus.
Why did you choose this work? I am passionate about empowering people to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Sexual health is an important topic that often gets swept under the rug. I hope to help students become more comfortable learning about how to keep themselves safe and healthy.
What is your favorite part of working with students? I really enjoy working with students because I always learn something new from them. They are at a point in their lives where they are becoming increasingly independent and it’s so cool to watch them make that transformation.
If you could tell/advise all UK students something relating to your work, what would it be? Ask questions and be informed! Seek information from REPUTABLE sources and don’t feel awkward about asking your health care provider. A situation is only as awkward as you make it. The staff at UK Student Health are very helpful and knowledgeable and will answer your questions without judgment. Take advantage of all of the great resources available to you on a college campus.
